The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
